PCOS(Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a genetically complex endocrine disorder that manifests itself most commonly in women aged 18-24. Multiple studies reported that on average, urban populations showed higher percentages of women with PCOS and a higher risk of developing PCOS overall. Whereas rural populations showed lower percentages of women afflicted with PCOS, despite lesser access to healthcare or knowledge on the matter.
The major factors influencing this are lifestyle and food-habit changes.
But could there be other factors too? Share your thoughts.
Studies have shown that this may be due to gene predisposition, and may be due to obesity. While the main cause of this disease is unknown. And above mentioned is only prediction that have shown in research . I didn’t much about this .
That’s really surprising. But in urban areas women have more stress of both work and household as compared to rural which contributes in imbalance lifestyle, eating habits, stress and hormonal imbalance.
As per the studies in India, the rate of PCOS is higher in urban areas than rural likely due to lifestyle and dietary factors. Urban women tends to experience more symptoms like hirsutism (means excessive hair growth in face, chest, back, abdomen) and weight gain.
Healthy food habits and eating healthy by the people in the rural areas is the main reason that they are suffering with the PCOS very less. Because in the rural areas people often eat the healthy food and plant based food. and coming to the urban areas people are consuming everything that is prepared with some kind of substances that is harming to our health and developing the PCOS in women.
I think it would be primarily because of the difference in lifestyle and food habits. Urban women are more exposed to processed and junk foods while rural people have limited access to these foods which naturally make them have home-made food for most of the time. Obesity is seen as one among the many factors that causes PCOS and we all know that how these processed and unhealthy food habits would impact our health.
soo true,
This reminds us of a question that, did we really upgraded our lifestyle by moving to the rural areas? if yes, then does our bad health is the price we pay for having a more advance lifestyle? or should we call it lazy lifestyle…!
