Meftal spas 🚨: Pain decreases, but dangers grow

The Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission has warned that the popular painkiller Meftal, often used for period cramps & pain, may cause a rare but serious reaction called DRESS syndrome. Symptoms include rash, fever, swollen lymph nodes, blood changes & organ damage, which can appear 2–8 weeks after use.

Other risks: stomach ulcers/bleeding, kidney damage, high BP & heart issues (especially with long-term use).

- Use only under medical guidance.

- Stop immediately if unusual symptoms appear.

Yes, it should be taken under the guidance of your physician only.

Those who are taking meftal spas should aware of this.

I would suggest to not take pain killers as i will feel myself this is not even 1% pain we experience when compared to pregnancy pains .

This is very important to keep note of, only in recent times have people become aware of how harmful drugs like meftal spas can be for the body, this was truly informative Thank You for sharing!

This warning is really important, especially for students and young women who often use Meftal without knowing the risks. DRESS syndrome sounds scary, and the fact that symptoms show up weeks later makes it even more dangerous. As a pharmacy graduate, I feel we must spread awareness about safe medicine use. Painkillers may give quick relief, but they’re not harmless. Always consult a doctor before taking any strong medication

This should reach many, awareness on regular checks should also be imparted

I think it’s before few years I used to take meftal spas for period pain but i have stopped taking not because I have seen any symptoms, but I don’t want to take any medications for period pain, so I have stopped soon after months I came to know the dangerous effects of consuming it. I even suggested my friends and family to avoid using it.

This is a common query among many women who use meftal spas to relieve menstrual pain. But don’t worry, taking meftal spas during periods does not cause infertility problems.
However, you should note that this is only when you take the medication in limited amounts. Long-term use of this medicine for several days in a row can affect your ovulation cycles and cause infertility issues.
Meftal spas acts by inhibiting the action of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which release prostaglandins that are responsible for pain and inflammation.

However, these prostaglandins are also necessary for successful ovulation. Inhibiting COX also inhibits prostaglandin production, thus affecting your ovulation cycles.
However, this effect is temporary, and your ovulation will resume after a few days of stopping the medication. However, it is best to consult your doctor before taking the medicine.

Must know things for everyone, it is one of the most over the counter drugs used.

Meftal should be taken only under guidance and only when pain is unbearable. Milder pain can be managed with rest, hydration or heat therapy. Thank you for sharing about this
