Is digital presence more important than clinical expertise?

Healthcare is rapidly evolving in the digital era. It has become more accessible and convenient to every corner of the world with the invasion of digital technology into the healthcare industry. Online consultations, telemedicine and digital tools have become part of clinical practice. People are using search engines to self-diagnose their problem, finding the related treatment information available, and choosing the related doctors who are digitally popular. This made digital presence mandatory for the medical professionals.

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD

Clinical expertise can not be gained in a single day practice. It is built on countless hours of study, exams, clinicals and trust. Recently, a patient walked into my clinic with a dental problem. As i was taking the previous treatment history, he mentioned a popular clinic name. I recognised the clinic immediately as I am a follower of that Instagram page, which regularly posts information on many dental topics. Until I see this case i felt that the clinician is very efficient practitioner who also had good social media skills. But I was shocked!

VIRTUAL PRESENCE VS CLINICAL EXPERTISE

Digital media presence is definitely necessary to establish our practice, create patient base and build trust these days. Clinical expertise is core competency of any healthcare professional. But the necessity of virtual presence has become an additional burden on the private practitioners. Corporates, on other hand are also making this virtual presence mandatory for the patient drive. Medical profession already is an exhausting job which demands lot of dedication and commitment at the cost of personal life. New-generation doctors have got the burden of focusing more on technical skills than on clinical skills. I dont deny the importance of virtual presence but it is taking a toll on our professional.A careful combination of both technical and clinical skills are essential for present day doctors.

what is your opinion on this? Are you able to manage both without stress?

Very relevant concern. Digital presence is useful, but it should never overshadow clinical competence. Balance is possible but only when patient care, ethics, and skill-building remain the priority, not online popularity.

Digital presence is important but not more important than clinical expertise. Since people this era are more inclined to what they see online it is better they get trusted information from at least some sources. Also digitally being present is like making ourselves more trusted as we are showing the results with proper evidence online. But this all happens if we have a strong foundation in our clinical knowledge.

Unlike the medical field, dental practice is not available 24ร—7. In this context, a digital presence through teleconsultations brings dental healthcare closer to people, making consultations accessible at their fingertips. While digital dentistry is undoubtedly a booming space, the physically demanding and exhausting nature of routine dental practice makes it challenging for practitioners to consistently balance both clinical work and an active digital presence.

Digital presence is important but is not possible to overshadow the clinical aspect.

Clinical expertise remains strong impact than the digital presence because clinical expertise in healthcare they have years of training from foundation and patient effective care. when compare to online reputation effect patient choice because trust build on high ratings and positive reviews. so healthcare professionals maintain balance in both digital presence and without compromising clinical duties.

Absolutely true. With patients increasingly relying on digital platforms for information and doctor selection, a responsible digital presence has become part of modern medical practice. The key is ensuring it remains ethical, accurate, and patient-centric.

Patients are drawn to digital presence, but it cannot take the place of bedside knowledge. That Instagram personality with poorly handled cases? traditional trap. At great personal expense, recent graduates juggle reels and rounds. Clinic first and templated content are two ways to balance both. Clinical expertise is marketed virtually, not the other way around. difficult but manageable.

Digital presence although make things easier however, it cannot replace clinical presence..

Digital presence is necessary because the doctor cannot reach everyone and everywhere. But Digital presence is not more worthy than your clinical experience. As if you donโ€™t have any clinical experience you cannot do digital presence.
