Dr Raghav Narula THRASHING the patient- what you think?

A resident doctor named Dr Raghav Narula at IGMC, Shimla started beating a patient while the patient is still on bed. This 16 second clip has gone viral. So much so that a Palestinian doctor sent me the clip in the beginning and the clip is in Arabic language.

What do you think about the whole incidence?

Please give me your opinion.

I have seen the clip too and as the circumstances isn’t clear on any platform, making any comment would be very irrational.

The news is just in: Dr Raghav Narula has been terminated from his position as junior resident at IGMC, Shimla.
Now the national medical commission (NMC) should take up the case and suspend his medical license. In my assessment, it will be done sooner or later.

I have seen this clip on social media. Some people are saying that the patient was very non co-operative with the doctor during the diagnosis. Anyhow, a doctor should keep their calm and in any circumstances should not lose their cool.

That was really shocking. What must have caused him to hit the patient so violently?

It has been proven that both the parties are at fault. I believe that lack of protection for healthcare workers and the unfairness in how people expect doctors to behave, instead of treating them as fellow human beings with feelings, has also led to such an incident.

The act of beating a patient in the hospital bed by Dr Raghav Narula must not find support by any conscionable soul. However, the best remedy lies with Dr Raghav Narula. He must reflect upon the whole issue and can still find some solace:

  1. Issue an unconditional apology for his unethical and unprofessional behavior.

  2. Meet the patient and his family and both parties should sit down and have a heart to heart talk.

  3. Seek forgiveness and offer himself to Ethics committee of the state medical board for discussions and further directions to get professional re-orientation towards the professional conduct and ethics.

There should be proper investigation. Although patient safety comes first.

Patient treatment is the priority, with the safety of doctor as well as treating doctors, authentic investigation may reveal the actual circumstances…enlighten the perspectives of both Patient and treating doctor

It’s the doctors duty to keep the patient safe with ethical treatment and empathy. It is a patients duty to respect healthcare staff and cooperate. Mutual respect and trust between both sides helps to create a safer effective healthcare system and we can avoid situations like this

The doctor is beating a patient lying on the bed like a butcher. Nothing more horrific and morally degrading than this.
It needs no further debate, whatever be the degree of provocation from other side.

Also, if Dr Raghav Narula has even a bit of remorse, he better ask for forgiveness for his inhuman behavior.

The person should be immediately arrested, and his license should be immediately suspended. We should not tolerate such kinds of incidents. Strict action should be ensured.

The viral video from IGMC, Shimla is deeply disturbing. Violence by a doctor against a patient is unacceptable and violates medical ethics.

While resident doctors work under extreme stress and burnout, this can never justify physical assault. Accountability and a fair investigation are essential—without resorting to social media trials or blanket blame on the profession.

This incident reflects a larger systemic failure. We need zero tolerance for violence on both sides, better support for healthcare workers, and reforms that restore trust and humanity in healthcare.

Keep the reason aside, it is deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable. Violence against patients undermines trust in healthcare and violates medical ethics. Such behavior must be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate disciplinary action should be taken to ensure patient safety and uphold the integrity of the profession.

Doctors are put in stressful situations every day but it is never natural for them to snap and in jure a patient, however unruly. they can physically restrain the patient if they are being physically aggressive towards them but never be the perpetrator of violence. The goal is not be a Dr. Kabir Singh. Worse yet that student bodies and doctor’s associations banded and held a strike protesting his suspension. Only very few senior doctors came forward to condemn the act of this budding clinician. Compare the same with the incident in Goa when a senior MO was verbally abused by a local MLA on a power trip . The way he handled it in a calm but firm manner should also set an example. The other question to ask is would this doctor have done the same thing if the unruly patient was someone influential?
