I know ragging is illegal. But have you ever experienced it?
For me, it happened during my second year — because that’s when we shifted hostels and started living with seniors.
I was scared.
I didn’t know how to say no.
It wasn’t physical or verbal abuse. But it was a bunch of dares — things I didn’t like doing.
Dancing, singing, drama… they may sound fun to some. But when you’re forced to do something you’re uncomfortable with, isn’t that still ragging?
It made me question: Where’s the line between fun and fear? If I say no and I’m still pushed, does it count as ragging?
I’m curious to know —
What’s your experience with ragging?
Let’s create a safe space to talk.
Ragging was made to feel like a ‘rite of passage’ on entering medical college for us.
This was of course almost 10 years ago, the rules and measures have become very strict now, and almost all medical colleges hold a zero tolerance policy.
Some peers who couldn’t take the humiliation and pressure also dropped out of medical college eventually.
It is something which shouldn’t be looked away by staff as well.
It shouldn’t be tolerated, Nowadays colleges are being serious and they take strict actions against it. In our college there’s not a single case of ragging atleast, be vocal then it won’t take much time to stop.
It is ragging and the staff must take actions and please dont be scared to tell the authority cuz today this might be small acts but we can’t take guarantee for what’s coming tomorrow.
Something we are forced to do by others, even we are not interested comes unde ragging.
This want to be reported to the authorities so that it should not be followed by them further with others.
Silence in this situation may worsen the condition further.
Respective authorities should take strict actions against it.
Ragging still exists in most of the colleges especially colleges which are related to medical fields(like mbbs, pharmacy, etc). Strict actions are must required. Ragging is not a part of our education system and should not be.
Ragging might begin with seemingly harmless activities like asking newcomers to introduce themselves by singing, dancing, or performing a skit. While some may take it lightly, others could be deeply affected, leading to mental distress. Institutions should not encourage such practices and must strictly prohibit them.
The pathetic excuse for ragging in our college was that it is a way of seniors getting to really know you..it is no different than bullying in school..I found it distressing and I never ragged anyone when my juniors came.
Ragging still exists in many colleges, but it is not visible from the outside. During addmission every College say that there is no ragging at all in our college, but once we join, we know the truth. If Ragging is jovial, funny and comfortable its ok. but,the limits should not be crossed.
I Have never experienced it .
But it must illegal in india and some other countries ragging is a serious crime .
I think in some colleges or hostel there will be doing ragging at that point it must at some limit all are playing like games in my friends college my friend get ragged where he need to sing. I think singing dancing is just in fun but abuse, humiliation, physical or sexual violence harassment is a serious crime.
There are many cases where students have lost their lives due to ragging. But unfortunately people and college staffs ignore this. Students enters the college with a lot of dreams and hopes. They should feel welcomed and secure at college. But ragging just makes their lives worst.
I have got ragged by my classmates I am an introvert so when I joined my new school there were gangs and dons types of things in it they use to scold me beat me tell me I’m a loser and I basically didn’t took them seriously I was not letting them destroy my mental peace until they reached their limit then I became my own support and took stand for me after that no one used to do any type of ragging
During my college days, earlier I used to fear a lot about ragging but with time I realised that these seniors are the one who will help you at each step during your journey
And soon it becomes fun with a friendly vibe around .
