A shocking incident has emerged from India, where yet another doctor was assaulted by a patient or their family.
I see so many doctors and healthcare workers facing this kind of violence, while just trying to do their job.
Wonder to know and do engage Why do you think violence against doctors is rising in India & What do you think needs to change in the system or in us?
Violence against doctors is rising due to mistrust, poor communication, unrealistic expectations, and an overstretched healthcare system. What needs to change is both systemic reform for better infrastructure and legal protection, and we, as doctors, must also strive for empathetic, clear communication to rebuild patient trust.
Violence against doctors in India is rising due to misinformation, lack of communication, patient frustration and crowded hospitals too. We need more strong legal protection , better healthcare infrastructure and proper communication between healthcare professionals and patients.
Miscommunication or poor communication is the key reason behind the rise of violence against healthcare professionals. The overwhelming workload we face is one of the main reasons for this miscommunication. Despite this, most of us manage to communicate softly and in a well-mannered manner. Sometimes, we fail to do so, and even if we do correct the false news and gossip, make the way for violence against us.
We need to have better strict laws in India, because these events happen only in India and nowhere else. The incident is very shocking and alarming. We have had multiple events like this before as well.
Violence often stems from miscommunication.
Be kind to those who are kind to you. But if a patient or attender crosses the line, do not hesitate to call security or inform the police or higher authorities.
You will not be scolded for protecting yourself.
Let go of the fear—your safety matters more than anything.
Faulty system that made people think that doctors are obliged to do as people say and doctor work to please the people … This thinking is so wrong…
It is not only decreasing respect towards doctors but also is increasing violence and crime against doctors … Night shifts are becoming unsafe day after day … And crowded OPDs are becoming aggressive day after day …
