Can too much sleep be harmful to health?

While sleep is essential for the body and mind, sleeping more than required on a regular basis may also affect health. Oversleeping can make people feel tired, groggy, and less productive instead of refreshed. It may disturb the body’s natural sleep–wake cycle, causing headaches, low energy, and difficulty concentrating during the day.

Excessive sleep has also been linked to complications like weight gain, low mood, and reduced physical activity. In some cases, oversleeping can be a sign of underlying problems such as stress, depression, poor sleep quality, or certain medical conditions.

Maintaining a balanced sleep schedule, usually 7 to 9 hours gives better energy levels, mood, and overall health.
