Ayurveda Beyond Plants: What Most People Don’t Know

Many people believe that Ayurveda is only a plant-based system of medicine. While herbs and plants play a major role, this belief is incomplete. Ayurveda is a holistic science that uses materials from plants, minerals, and animal sources, depending on the condition being treated.

Classical Ayurvedic texts describe the use of metals like gold, silver, and iron in purified forms, known as bhasmas. These are prepared through detailed processes to ensure safety and effectiveness. Certain animal-derived products such as milk, ghee, honey, and curd are also commonly used because of their therapeutic value.

More importantly, Ayurveda is not just about medicines. It focuses on diet, lifestyle, daily routines, and balance between body and mind. Therefore, Ayurveda is not only plant-based, it is a complete system of health aimed at overall well-being.
