Ayurveda=old?
Ayurveda is a traditional yet effective science. It literally means 'science of life’. It is a fine science and explaining the concepts of Ayurveda considering only conventional sciences may not do it justice. It not only considers the somatic aspect of health but also considers psychological, emotional, spiritual and social aspects to define health. Ayurveda follows various classical and well documented texts but it is also practised on the basis of evidences obtained in clinical studies and various research activities.
Herbal medicines= Ayurveda?
Yes! Ayurveda does use many herbs in permutations and combinations. But herbal medicines are just a part of Ayurveda and not Ayurveda in its entirety. Ayurveda includes many therapies, procedures and medicines other than herbal preparations, take panchakarma for an example. Various detox procedures, herbo-mineral medicines, herbal medicines, counselling are a part of Ayurvedic treatment that may vary from person to person.
There are no side effects to Ayurvedic medicine?
No! Any drug or treatment taken without a proper consultation from an Ayurvedic Doctor, in any dosage at any time without being under observation can show harmful effects. The solution lies in taking a proper consultation from a qualified and experienced Ayurvedic Doctor.
Mineral drugs= heavy metal toxicity?
Ayurveda formulations do include purified minerals. But these minerals undergo various vigorous procedures before being included in any formulation. After a formulation is prepared, like any other drug, it undergoes laboratory testing and clinical trials. To avoid any harm, a proper Ayurvedic consultant should be visited who would prescribe medicines that are standardized and of superior quality.
Lastly, all health-care systems have their own methods of treatment that are proven and effective. And all have their own pros and cons. Do not blindly follow any source for a specific treatment other than a qualified and experienced Doctor of the respective field, not social medial, not AI!
