Ever noticed how one negative comment can outweigh ten compliments? Our mind tends to hold onto negative experiences more strongly than positive ones. It’s why a small setback can stay with us all day, while good moments pass quickly.
Because of this, we often end up overthinking, replaying situations, and giving more importance to things that don’t truly define us. It can make our reality feel heavier than it actually is.
I used to be someone who leaned more towards the negative, overthinking, holding onto small things, letting them affect me more than they should. It only led to me always being sad, angry and depressed.
But over time, I’ve started shifting. Now, I try to be more positive, appreciate little moments, and most importantly, be patient with myself. That change didn’t happen overnight, but it made a huge difference in how I feel every day.
Once we become aware of this pattern, we can slowly start changing it, by choosing to notice the good, even if it feels small.
Have you ever caught your mind focusing more on the negative than the positive ?
Well said, I used to have same mindset of going into negative thinking when someone disheartened me or given negative compliments. Then I used to make my mind busy and focus on things in my life which are important and make me feel confident once again.
Yes..often I lean towards negativity specially when I made a some silly mistake and that time I had many negative overthinking and really that destroys everything..after that negative thoughts but now I learn how to control it and not to be heavy that one part to the next one by just overthinking.
I’ve also noticed how easily the mind focuses on negative things more than positive ones. Overthinking small situations can affect mood and peace of mind a lot. Slowly learning to stay positive, appreciate small moments, and be patient with ourselves really makes a difference.
Agree, don’t know why bt this always happens. And not only on us, even people notice more negative things about you than positive, like if you have done 100 positive things in life and 1 mistake done, everything washes off, suddenly you will become all negative person,
I think this is wrong everyone has a positive and negative side and we should try to ignore negative side ,atleast till positive things are more relevant.
I think most of us tend to focus on one negative incident or comment rather than all other positive things that we have achieved.
This usually makes us rethink every work that we have done, and question whether we are doing it right or just feeling low that we are not up to our own expectations.
It happens frequently, however it is difficult to break the chain of negative thoughts.I had once read that if you look at your thoughts consciously you can control them.If you traceback your thoughts you reach the point where it aroused from.If you fix that point negative thinking chain ends there itself. The problem is we dont spend time with ourselves, talking to ourselves which I think to some extent can help release negative thoughts. If we counter our own thoughts by talking to ourselves we can change our focus from positive to negative thinking.
Yeah, negative things are easily caught by our mind. Even a small things which is negative occupy our mind for a long time. I overcome this by diverting my mind towards the small things which are good in my life.
Very relatable and thoughtfully written. I think many people experience this, and becoming aware of it is already the first step towards a healthier mindset.
