Why Do Many Patients Believe Expensive Medicines Work Better?

Yes some ppl look more confident to the med which is more expensive …

Doctor from his her side shld price what is best and effective

Sometime the medcation are cheaper and more effective

Patients often equate price with quality. Brand perception, marketing and a blind trust in high cost is equivalent to higher efficiency are main reasons behind this perception. Though the fact remains that generics with same active ingredients are equally effective.

Most people expect a quick relief, so they think more the price, more the efficacy.

It is also the marketing skill of the brand.

Yes this influence human psychology.

It’s a psychological barrier, because of lack of awareness and also the poor quality medicines in the market with low price. So we have to educate them and also have to build the trust.

Interesting and thought provoking!

Many patients believe expensive medicines work better because they think that higher the price, higher the quality and this expensive medicine can cure the disease faster than the cheaper one.

Well, have we heard about the term - marketing? Expensive medicines market well, they come in front of the patient’s eyes not just throught the word of mouth, but by campaigns, promotions, ads etc .

Another reason - it is the core psychology. People tend to react better to situations where they have made a payment / premium payment. They are more careful, they listen better and do their part of the work better

Another reason - cheaper ones really do have a quality issue. Many a times a lot these medicines have been proved to be just placebos.

Not that I am afan of expensive mediicnes, but somehow the makers are reaching the customers better - their active marketing , better quality and better packaging are making the patients believe in them more.

people usually relates low prices products as something manufactured with low quality and no supervision and if a patient has a option there are high chances that the patient will go for a higher priced drug being unaware that the active pharmaceutical ingredient that is responsible for improving is health is same in both medication it just the cost of excipients used, or the marketing cost , brand, profit factor varies. initiatives by the government awareness campaigns are needed for generic medicines, their accessibility should be easy. the simple answer to this question is the marketing strategy that influence patients mind and win their trust in that expensive medicine.

Many patients believe that expensive medications are better because of their branding and doctors’ preferences. But the brand drugs also have the same efficacy as generic drugs. This is the responsibility of the doctor to make the patient understand that brand and generic drugs are the same.

Yes..for many people the cost of the medicine is reason to judge whether is really good or not..Even I heard some senior physician to criticize the generic medicine..and saying that it will not same power as that of other brand.

The effectiveness of medicine depends on its active ingredient, not on price.

Generic medicines and branded medicines often contain the same composition

People trust on well known brands more than generic medicines , assuming more safer or more effective

yes ,think the price of a medicine influences people trust as people don’t trust government hospitals cause of cheap medications , though formulations are same but they prefer private and expensive once

It’s fascinating how price can shape perception. Many affordable options work just as well, but patients often overlook them because of branding and pricing.

Yes, as a registered pharmacist who have worked in a retail pharmacy i have encountered with such situations. The price of the tablets have no limit over the efficacy of the drug. But patients who purchase drugs, usually tend to go for pricier drugs. This need to change, i myself know a few drug showing better efficacy in generic drugs that prices a tablet for Rs. 13 but the common people tend to go for the drug that is around Rs. 32 per tablet.

True! And it’s a normal psychological glitch we all have. We tend to associate price with value. That’s basically why companies overprice their product and then show discounted price, because most people won’t buy it if the discounted price were original.

Yess, the price of medicines influences the trust of people. That is basically due to lack of knowledge. I think we should create more awareness regarding this, via patient communication and education.

People tend to believe that the higher the cost of medicine higher the improvement in health it’s an psychological assumption.another reason is branding people believe branded drugs more than generic drugs

yes, many people believe that if medicine cost more than it works better but actually medicinal property depends totally on its drug molecular equivalence proportion and this is known by brand companies very well who equates cost with effect of medicinal drug. so, need to work more in this awareness part this brings generic medicines in market which proves efficacy cant be control by market branding .if medicinal inner property remains same either in branded or generic trade name then cost factor doesn’t used to prove its efficacy -in which way branding a drug varies from generic content is in its formulation, its reach up to the physician demand ,market supply and its advertisement to reach to consumer influencing market and more clinical research work to prove its efficacy on particular disease. and its combination with more effective drugs. so if above awareness and work can be taken into consideration for generic medicines then public will know the outcome result for it and will use it definitely which serves its purpose cost effective and effective too.

yes, I do think the brand matters to people more. They simply assume brand means quality products that are reliable.
