As FMG, studying in a country away from home (home sweet home) can be an exciting experience as well as challenging. It has its own pluses and minuses. Is it a truly cosmopolitan environment at your medical college/Institute? What kind of nationalities are represented in your college? How is the overall experience?
In India, I did MBBS from MGIMS, Sewagram, Wardha , Maharastra and this gave me an opportunity to see the whole India represented. Even though the 50% seats were allocated for Maharashtra students, yet the other 50% meant students from all over India.
And these kind of perspectives shape your life.
In New York, I did my peds residency from LIJ med center, New Hyde Park. This is a huge residency program with 45 residents per year and many fellowships. Even though many doctors were of Jewish origin, but you could see residents coming from all over the US, while some as FMGs.
And in Chicago I did my fellowship in neonatal medicine from John H Stroger hospital of cook county. This Institute has medical students and doctors from all over the world.
Being an FMG , I have seen ups and downs that happened throughout the journey.
Being away from home is tough but by making friends I found a family away from home that helped me grow along the way.
Language was a challenge for sure but adaptability is something that I learnt.
Communicating with new people, exposure to new environments, working with new teams, at the end of the day it was all worth it …
Although it was tough in the beginning but by the end of was emotional and exiting.
I am doing my MBBS from IGMC Shimla, for me it is my home, as I live here.
But yes we have many students from all over India and few NRI too.
It has a been a great experience till now.
Many are from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and even Odisha.
There is a healthy and growing environment among us.
I am studying MBBS in SMMCHRI, Chennai. In my class including me there are 4 malayalis. Most of them are tamilians itself and rest are telugu people.
The environment at my medical College is quite cosmopolitan, and it brings a abundant challenges which has to deal with.
Similarly for me It was more difficult than i thought before
