We eat ice apple. But do we really know it?

During summer, dehydration and heat stress become common. That’s why seasonal fruits like Ice apple (munjal) are consumed for their cooling effects.

Ice apple - is a lesser-known fruit of the Palmyra palm tree. It is scientifically known as Borassus flabellifer and belongs to the family Arecaceae

Ice apple is composed of nearly 80-90% water, making it an effective natural source of hydration during hot weather. Along with that, it also contains electrolytes like potassium, and a small amount of sodium, which help maintain fluid balance and reduce fatigue caused by excessive sweating.

Health Relevance:

Hydration and health regulation: Its high-water content helps replace fluids lost through sweat and may lower the risk of heat exhaustion.

Digestive support: Being light & containing some fiber, it can help with digestion and may ease mild issues like constipation or acidity.

Skin and heat related issues: antioxidant property in ice apple - help reduce minor issues like heat rashes or skin dryness.

Provide quick energy through natural sugars.

From Ayurvedic perspective, it is considered as cooling (Sheetal) food that may help in balancing of body heat (pitta)
However, these are traditional views and not strongly supported by clinical evidence.

Ice apple is a simple, hydrating, and easy to digest fruit that can supports the body during hot weather.
While it’s not a treatment for any condition, it can help in staying refreshed and managing heat stress

Like anything else, its best to consumed in moderation.

Do you also feel more refreshed after eating munjal?
