When we think of a summer, mostly we get visuals of extreme heat, dehydration and weakness. Which is clearly not a delusion but a reality.
What happens to our bodies during summer?
-
Our bodies heat up during summer, but we have an inbuilt mechanism to produce sweat which when evaporates, cools down our bodies.
-
As we sweat we lose some minerals like sodium and potassium along with water through sweat.
-
To compensate that loss our bodies produce less urine.
-
We feel dehydrated with drying of mouth.
-
We might feel tired with low energy.
how drinking electrolyte helps during summer?
-
We have electrolytes(which are minerals) in our body to maintain a proper direction for moving water through inside and outside of all the cells to maintain a balance.
-
However when we sweat along with water we might lose some electrolytes as well.
-
So to keep yourself well hydrated and energetic. Adding a source of electrolytes become important.
-
There are lots of brands available in the market for electrolyte drinks but they might contain too much sugar which is not what we need.
-
So coconut water, homemade electrolyte drink, fruits and, vegetables rich in water content can be a good source of electrolytes without too much of sugar.
How ever it is important to note that drinking too much of electrolytes can harm the kidneys so drinking only when it is needed and in a balanced amount is necessary.
What do you think are the essential strategies along with hydration to stay energetic during Summer?
