Many people take vitamin B12 and folic acid supplements daily without any prescription from doctors . What do you think is it beneficial for the body or is it doing more harm than good ?
As long as levels are WNL, it is ok.
I know one instance where a lady was taking B12 tablets and her Blood B12 levels were astronomically high (probably 1800). This was detected on routine blood testing.
For majority of people who have non-veg/ milk in their diet, its not an issue. It won’t harm you either unless you pop them like candy. For vegetarians, one tablet a week or so is recommended
I think before starting any supplements, you should get the prescription by a doc
Anything in moderation is good. Despite that, unnecessary intake of medicine and supplements can be bad for health if not consulted properly.
Being a vegetarian it’s hard to complete the daily requirement of vitamin b12 but folic acid supplement is a bit unnecessary without actually doing the blood work .
Taking vitamin B12 and folic acid supplements is generally safe without a prescription if used appropriately and within recommended dosage limits. Consulting a doctor is generally a good idea to be on the safer side.
Vitamin B12 - being the most commonly deficient, especially in vegetarian. It becomes necessary to take the supplements.
But only after consulting from the doctors about the dosage once.
