Uncommon side effects of common medications

  • Paracetamol – generally safe, but in rare cases can affect liver function or lower blood cell counts.
  • Ibuprofen – besides stomach issues, it can occasionally cause ringing in the ears (tinnitus).
  • Metformin – may lead to a metallic taste in the mouth or long-term vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • Amoxicillin – can rarely cause kidney problems or lead to a harmless but strange black discoloration on the tongue.
  • Cetirizine – though labeled non-drowsy, it can still cause sedation or vivid, unusual dreams in some people.
