The Roller Coaster Before Your Period

We all know period days can be physically and mentally challenging, but the week before? That’s a whole different level. The premenstrual phase (PMS) can feel like a roller coaster of emotions and body changes.

What happens in the body:

  • Hormonal fluctuations (estrogen & progesterone) affect mood, energy, and sleep.

  • Bloating, cramps, breast tenderness, and fatigue increase.

  • Mood swings, irritability, anxiety, or sadness can intensify.

Tips to manage the pre-period week:

  • Stay active: Light exercise like walking or yoga can ease cramps and boost mood.

  • Balanced diet: Reduce sugar, salt, and caffeine; include fruits, veggies, and hydration.

  • Self-care: Meditation, journaling, or warm baths can calm both mind and body.

  • Track your cycle: Understanding patterns helps you prepare mentally and physically.

:sparkles: Remember, it’s okay to feel off during this time. Listening to your body and taking care of yourself is key!

Question for engagement:
Do you notice the week before your period is tougher than the actual period? How do you cope with it?

Yes I notice fluctuation in my mood before period.
Try to stay calm most of the time but sometime its not possible. Eat some dark chocolates.
My way of coping from this.

I think i haven’t experienced PMS because i didn’t notice the change in my body a week before my periods or may be that change can be negligible to me.

Dark chocolate and self kindness sound like the sweetest combo to handle it :cherry_blossom:

That’s really nice :innocent: your body seems to handle it super well!
