If you want to help a child understand rather than memorize, the key step is to give them experiences rather than just filling their brains with a lot of information. During my learning phases, it was difficult for me to keep thinking about how chemicals interact or how machines work. I had to memorize stuff, which caused me to lose the fundamental concepts that would serve as the foundation for my future studies. Simply explaining concepts to a child rarely sticks, whereas doing so does.

Fractions become simpler when you cut a pizza. In the same way, science starts making sense when they see plants growing. Watching a plant growing not only teaches them the theory but also teaches patience, observation, responsibility and care.
True Lessons into Small Experiments:
Instead of explaining and making them understand osmosis, try a simple potato experiment. This feeds their curious eyes and mind.
Everyday Practical Home Learning:
Make them practice calculations not through a math book but by making them help in the kitchen. This teaches them measurements and practical applications. Going to the market teaches budgeting, communication, decision-making and a glimpse of the world.
Children are so hyperactive and curious that it becomes difficult for anyone to make them study straight for a longer duration. Studies shouldn’t be forced but made a part of life. Making little changes in the way of teaching them can make it interesting.
