Soft Skills Required for Internship or job Hunting

This post really highlight an often over-looked truth: soft skills - clear writing, professionalism, punctuality, willing to learn - are a lead in a job hunting and internships. Number of candidate have technical knowledge, but lacking of these essentials can cost them opportunities. Thanks for sharing!

The digital age has bridged the gap to knowledge, but the sheer volume of information often leads to distraction rather than skill development. Many take the easy route, lacking the patience to learn, yet they are quick to offer irrelevant opinions.

For example, you are criticizing others for spelling errors and bad subject lines, yet in your own post, you wrote ‘ob’ instead of ‘of.’ You also included a very poorly constructed statement: ‘our educational and training path witnesses us applying for one opportunity or another during at least.’ It is important to check your own writing before critiquing others.

Soft skills help freshers create or destroy their image as potential employee. The mere tone while speaking represents how serious a person is for the job or about their career as a whole. In today’s world where rough tone is trend and is considered superior, heroic and cool by some, deep down we all know no one wants to be around rough spoke rude person may he/she be experienced, intelligent or a genuins. Humble soft spoken person can learn as they give respect and space for others to speak and I feel it’s a very strong soft skill in todays world.

I Liked how the post highlights the role of communication, teamwork , and professionalism . These skills are often overlooked but they truly make a difference during internships. This reminder is helpful for students to focus on overall development , not just academics.

You have highlighted a very real issue, technical qualifications often take center stage, but soft skills can make or break an application. Basic professionalism is surprisingly rare. A clear subject line, a concise cover email, and a clean, error-free CV are the minimum expected, yet many candidates overlook them. Soft skills that truly matter include communication, attention to detail, punctuality, adaptability, and respect for professional etiquette. The ability to write a structured email, follow instructions, and present oneself thoughtfully shows maturity. These small habits reflect work ethic long before the interview stage, and often influence the first impression more than we realize.

In my opinion, while applying for any job, internship or volunteer position, one must be very clear about each specific requirement, so firstly properly go throughout the JD before applying. Afterwards, while filling the whole application, be very cautious and fill exact details whatever is been asked, skip filling any unnecessary information irrelevant to the JD. Also, when it comes to the skill section, go with both soft as well technical skills that you actually have. Also to make ATS friendly resume, include keywords relevant to the JD in your resume so that their would be higher chance of getting selected. Most importantly, before submitting please cross-check every details at once to avoid any mistakes (grammatically and specific field).

While sending to the recruiter, make sure you have a well prepared Cover letter to e-mail your resume. This will create a different impact on the recruiter rather than just sending your CV in an attachment. Also be very careful to draft your cover letter, mention specific things relevant to the job role and your interest/passion/skills oriented to it.

Soft skills is more of a “work- etiquette” rather a skill in itself, now knowing or learning them might not hinder a emploee’s / firm’s work but rather smoothen the whole work process. Internships should help cultivate soft skills which in turn help in landing jobs during a job hunt.

An E-mail with only CV attached , no subject line and no message shows poor communication, lack of basic email etiquette and minimal effort.

In my opinion, candidates should read and understand the job description properly to ensure they are aware of the responsibilities. They should be very careful in all their steps, including resume preparation. Another important thing is how they present themselves to the employer.

Many applicants under estimate how important soft skills are. Simple things like a clear email body ,proper subject line and an error-free CV can create a strong impression from the recruiter

Communication, adaptability as much as technical knowledge is required. Clear emails, active listening, time management, teamwork, and a willingness to learn can set a good impact. Consistent following and a proactive attitude can turn applications into good opportunities.

The Soft Skills that need to be shown out, especially in this era of internet, is confidence. Your words matter, how you convey to founders, HRs, or anyone, it’s your choice of words. You are not physically present to be judged as a person, but your words will be judged, as to who you are and what can you place on the table. And as a fresher, that matters the most.

Soft skills really make a huge difference during job applications. Many candidates still miss basics like a clear subject line, proper email etiquette, and error-free writing. Professional communication shows seriousness and respect for the opportunity, and it often becomes the deciding factor when profiles are otherwise similar.

Growing up, I was always told to work on my Soft skills.Soft skills is the most important part of life without which we will never be able to work and develop a success career for ourselves. Soft skills help us in various ways like, being able to communicate properly. helps us to covey our Ideas and thoughts in a better way.

At the beginning of our career, we apply to many places, but we often ignore basic things. Because of this, we don’t get hired. So we should carefully check simple things like our email and CV. If we avoid these small mistakes, we look more professional and our chances of getting opportunities increase.

Some the people are not applying in the right way and their CV is incomplete but also the one who is have the best resume also not getting the internship because as they are students or freshers the one who is recieving the emails are not even checking the emails

A lot of us focus only on degree and how important basic soft skills are. Simple things like writing a neat CV can actually change your chances of lot.

Honestly, this post is so relatable and helpful.

I completely agree with the points shared here . I have also noticed that many applicants overlook basic soft skills , especially when it comes to communication and presentation. I realised it during my own applications, even small mistakes leave a strong impression. Things like checking for errors , spellings make a huge difference. These small steps reflect professionalism.

When starting our career, we often make many mistakes while applying, which can affect our hiring chances. However, when we learn from all these mistakes, we appear more professional and our opportunities increase significantly.

The article clearly highlights soft skills are becoming just as important as technical knowledge. Communication, teamwork and adaptability truly make a difference during internships and job searches. The examples shared here were practical and easy to relate to .Very useful for students preparing for placements.
