Why Job Searching Is More Challenging Today and Strategies to Succeed!

In the past years, job searching was simpler candidates mostly depended on campus placements, newspaper ads, or directly walking into offices with resumes. Today, things have changed drastically. Digital job portals, automation, and a flood of graduates every year have made the process far more competitive. At the same time, companies now expect candidates to have not just degrees, but also practical skills, internships, and adaptability. This makes job searching a stressful journey for many freshers and even experienced professionals.

Why Job Searching Is Tougher Now:

  1. High Competition: Thousands of applicants compete for the same role.

  2. Rising Employer Expectations: Companies want multi-skilled, adaptable candidates.

  3. Automation & AI: Many repetitive jobs are reduced or replaced.

  4. Online Overload: Too many applications on portals make it hard to stand out.

  5. Global Hiring: Remote work has widened competition to international levels.

Strategies to Overcome Challenges:

  1. Optimize Resume & Profile: Use industry keywords, highlight projects and skills clearly.
  2. Networking: Connect with HRs, alumni, and professionals on LinkedIn. Referrals increase chances.
  3. Skill Upgradation: Learn trending tools, short courses, and certifications related to your field.
  4. Smart Applications: Apply selectively to roles matching your profile, rather than mass applying.
  5. Follow-Up: Politely check with HR after applying; it shows interest and professionalism.
  6. Stay Consistent: Treat job searching like a daily task (apply, network, learn, repeat).

I would advice the freshers to focus on building skills and visibility first, and not just sending applications.

To work at our dream company, we must learn many things and make sacrifices. First, building a network is the most important step, along with acquiring both technical and soft skills. May it pay off.

I don’t it’s challenging it’s mainly because of lack of skills and some barriers.

With curriculum we need to build fundamentals so strong with practical knowledge. Of campus placement job searches looks so tragedy to freshers due to lack of skills and fear of adaptability and multitasking.

Job in India as now a day a tough task .

Finding job is not big deal but less salary also a big deal.

Even in some ob as a fresher you dont get salary for even better living then what is the benefit of getting higher studies just to earn pennies .

Its bitter but truth , the complexity in job make a graduate to adjust in low .

The complexity of job can avaoid by changing education system.

The University must be work on the job demand and practical knowledge and skill, not only graduating a person.

The company provide some internship to peoples.

Brilliantly explained! It’s true that getting employed is the toughest task these days. Despite of being qualified, the competition and job saturation has left many people jobless.

Job searching today is more difficult due to rising competition, automation, and stricter hiring standards. Many roles now require advanced skills or experience, even for entry-level positions. Resumes often get filtered by software (ATS) before reaching a person, and applicants frequently face ghosting or long delays. To succeed, candidates must tailor resumes, build strong LinkedIn profiles, and actively network. Upskilling through online courses and applying strategically also improves chances. Staying patient, consistent, and resilient is key. In today’s job market, it’s not just about applying it’s about standing out and staying prepare

Skills are more important nowadays than having more degrees

Developing skill is the most important thing for any domain. But, yes job hunting can be exhausting sometimes and making connection can be a way out.

I would suggest focus should be totally on transferable skill development and holistic approach

I would suggest that freshers should not loose hope and keep on applying to the open positions as much as possible everyday, as well as their resume should be ATS compliant.

My advice to freshers: build value before seeking opportunity.

As western countries are doing it for years, Even after passing competition exams they emphasise more on CV, Research, Extracurricular Activities, Hobbies, Internships which basically means they want to check how genuinely you are mad for that profession.

Gain real experience through internships or projects, and network genuinely often, one real connection beats 100 online applications. :briefcase:

From a personal experience, finding a job after a gap is tremendously tiresome and heartbreaking at times. Especially for women with a professional background.

In the dental industry, increasing dental College establishments have led to flooding of dentists who are passing out every year with minimal to none vacancies open for them.

Quality over quantity also applies in the professional field that has attributed to challenges in job search

Learning on the job and gaining experience helps you more than any certificate can. Focus on gaining experience and getting good at your work. Patience goes a long way.

Completely agree with you, doctors are underpaid in our country. We have to make compromises because of limited job opportunities sometimes and sometimes because of lack of adequate experience in the particular department. On the other hand if we see IT sector people, they get double or more than double hike when they switch. This is completely unfair to the doctors, considering the hard work, time, commitment we put in our work. After all that we go through, at least salary should not be the issue that we should worry about.

The piece of advice that I would give to a fresher is that, keep trying, be consistent and be bold. Grab the opportunity that comes your way and put all your mind & intention to learn something new daily. We have to struggle to climb the mountain before seeing the beautiful view from top of the mountain. Struggle is real and long but will definitely give you the fruit of your hard work.
