Two recent graduates, Aman and Riya, applied for the same job at a reputed healthcare company.
Aman had a strong academic record, several certifications, and had even published a research paper. However, during the interview, he struggled to make eye contact, gave one-word answers, and didn’t show much enthusiasm for the role.
Riya, on the other hand, had average grades but had done internships, was confident in her communication, asked thoughtful questions, and showed genuine interest in the company’s mission. She also shared how she solved problems during her internship and how she could bring those skills to the new role.
Guess who got the job?
Riya did. Not because she had better marks, but because she presented herself as someone eager to learn, capable of growing, and a good team player.
It is true that if one having average academics and along with that if he/ she have good communication skills, presentation skills, problem solving ability and management skills then it will be preferred. Because in industry, how you work and how you present yourself is more important than your academics.
Yes , the one who has better communication Skill, problem Solving skill and management Skill will be preferred because in Industry we have to communicate with our team , solve problems that can arise infront of you so , it is important to have a better communication Skill and Problem Solving skill
This story is such a great reminder that marks aren’t everything. How you communicate, your attitude, and your willingness to learn can matter even more. Companies don’t just hire resumes they hire people.
In my opinion Riya has been hired because she performed well in the interview and she clearly explained all the answers with her internship experience. Grades are not important but communication skills are necessary while attending the interview how to respond and where to respond clearly.
This reminds us that marks alone don’t define success. The right mindset, how we present ourselves, and strong communication skills often matter far more than grades or certificates.
Yes, absolutely. Self-confidence and the way you present yourself in front of the interviewer matter a lot. An interviewer primarily evaluates your thought process and how you respond.
This story shows that marks alone don’t decide everything. Riya proved that confidence, communication, and real-world experience matter a lot. Employers want someone who fits the team and shows interest in the work. Aman had great achievements, but he couldn’t express them well. I feel it’s important to prepare for interviews and show your passion. Skills and attitude together make a strong candidate. Learning how to present yourself is just as important as studying hard.
This story teaches us that how we present ourselves in an interview matters the most. The way we communicate, maintain a confident body language and how we answer the questions insightfully based on our knowledge and skills, is what catches the recruiter’s attention.
A person who present good performance through communication, confidence with good or average marks can crack interview than a person with many certificate or great marks but with lack of confidence and self trust
From what I’ve seen, both matter but how we present ourselves often helps . Our qualifications might get us into the interview, but it’s our confidence, communication, and genuine interest that leave a lasting impression.
Qualifications open the window of opportunity, but personal connections with efficient communication often seal the deal. Recruiters often speak of being attracted to applicants they’d like to collaborate with, which usually depends on in-person presentation and attitude.
