Self-doubt is the habit of thinking too much before taking any decision.
You think because you are afraid of being wrong. Afraid of disappointing someone. Afraid of being judged. Afraid of being scolded or shouted at.
Sometimes this pattern doesn’t start today. It may begin in childhood.
Maybe you were constantly corrected.
Maybe you were judged too quickly.
Maybe you were told you were not good enough in your actions.
Maybe there was an incident where you did something out of curiosity but were scolded too harshly — and that left a scar inside you.
Slowly, because of this, you start judging yourself even before starting a task or making a decision.
You create scenarios in your head about what could go wrong and how people might react.
You begin doubting every choice.
A deeply relatable reflection. Self-doubt often grows from past experiences and fear of judgment, gradually shaping how we see our own decisions and abilities. Overcoming it rarely happens overnight , it begins with small choices, self-compassion, and accepting that mistakes are part of growth, not proof of inadequacy.
Self-doubt often echoes old fears, but growth begins the moment you choose action over overthinking. Small, imperfect steps taken consistently can slowly rebuild trust in yourself.
Very relatable post, with many students and professionals around. Self-doubt is usually created by overthinking and takes away valuable time away in just thinking and not being able to do anything out of the box.
Nice article. I often doubt myself, not because of any external influence, but due to decisions that have gone wrong in the past. As I analyze myself, I can understand that it is not wrong to make decisions. If it works, it’s well and good; if it doesn’t, take it as a lesson and move on.
Self doubt is more sort of stems from our deep insecurities. The only thing which helps us move forward is “ We are not alone in this”. Just like us, everyone goes through this and we have to normalise this for our betterment. Acceptance is the key for breaking self doubt.
Everyone wants to be more confident and be sure of their decisions without doubting themselves but no one talks about the small ways to start doing that. Great tips !
Very relatable topic! This reminds me of ‘imposter syndrome’ where self doubt is a significant component. I feel when there is ‘self-doubt’ talking to experts in that field or undergoing counseling can really help.

I think self doubt is very common . Everyone has it , in different scales. It undoubtedly has an impression of past and affects our day to day decision making . I think proper learning, proper guidance can build confidence in any individual and self doubt takes a back seat in such cases. One can indulge in yoga , meditation, exercises to strengthen the mind and make a balance of body with the mind and starts to feel confident.
Self doubt , when it becomes a habit of constant thinking,is a double edged sword, questioning ourselves isnt a sign of weakness, it’s sign that refuse tobe complacent.just Stop doubting ourselves and be the best and experiences give better results.
