It only takes a few minutes for restlessness to appear. A queue moves slowly. Nothing is happening. Soon, it becomes Uncomfortable. Guess What? it always ends up the same way. Knowingly or Unknowingly hand reaches for the phone way before the mind has a chance to wander.
It did not happen overnight. We slowly forgot what empty moments felt like. Every pause found a replacement. A notification and then ..there we go for another scroll. Silence became something to get through instead of something to experience.
The most surprising part is that being alone with ourselves can actually feel harder than being busy. We can spend hours consuming information but still struggle to spend few minutes with our own thoughts. It is Not because we have nothing to think about but it is because we have become unfamiliar with stillness.
Our brains are often shaped by repetition. The Constant stimulation trains them to expect more of it. Every swipe offers something new. The notification interrupts a thought before it actually has time to settle. Then Gradually… the mind forgets how to rest without being entertained.
It is actually “the Quiet” is where something important happens. Thoughts begin to connect. Our Emotions find words. The nervous system starts slowing down. Moreover, Clarity often arrives when nothing is demanding our attention.
Maybe well-being is not only measured by how well we eat or how long we sleep. Also, our frequency of exercise. It can also be measured by very simple question: Can we sit with ourselves without actually feeling the need to escape?
If screen or any sort distraction around you is suddenly no there for just ten minutes, would the silence feel peaceful… or unfamiliar?
Our best friend is our mind. It can become our enemy too if we don’t know how to control it. Most of us don’t know how to control the mind. That’s why silence feels awkward. Only you can become your best companion, so just relax in the silence and enjoy the time with yourself. Very beautiful post. A beautiful tiny break between scrolling. Thanks for sharing this post.
“Quiet” is the place where transformation and self-realisation begins
I think it’s a precious time when one can sit with themselves analyse and understand their actions, thoughts and visions. This phase has a potential to make or break a person.
So true! We often reach for our phones without even realising it. Sometimes the best thing we can do for our minds is simply pause, embrace the silence and let ourselves just be.
Thank you @Yashasvini
You described it so well !!Embracing those quiet pauses instead of filling every second with a screen makes all the difference…
This is so true. Especially since the last few years, most of us have been suffering from brain fog because of this very issue. We have forgotten how to engage in something deeply or rest. It’s often during boredom when our creative juices flow. We need to bring boredom back into our lives.
Having hectic day meeting lots of people and being busy all day, then quiet atmosphere, without distractions will be peaceful. That time you will feel calm.
These days, we’re always busy scrolling or distracting ourselves with something. We hardly spend time alone with our own thoughts. I believe everyone should spend at least 10 minutes a day sitting quietly and listening to what their mind has to say. It helps us reconnect with ourselves.
As a student, I often tell myself I’m just taking a quick break, but it usually turns into endless scrolling. This was a good reminder that sometimes the best reset isn’t more content it’s simply allowing our minds to slow down.
