Pyrimidine nucleotide biosynthesis:
- Starts with simple molecules (bicarbonate, glutamine, aspartate)
- Forms orotic acid, then OMP, UMP, and other pyrimidines (CMP, TMP)
- Key enzymes: carbamoyl phosphate synthetase II, dihydroorotate dehydrogenase
- Pathway is regulated for balanced DNA/RNA synthesis
Essential for DNA and RNA production!
