Yes it’s true! Most often in rural areas people still hesitate or think it’s not important to visit doctors for regular checkup. And this in some cases result into a dangerous situations!
Some common reasons:
Lack of awareness about antenatal checkups, myth, advice from neighbours and not taking it as critical condition to take care about.Financial reason is also there.
And due to this maternal deaths, nutrition problems, malfunctioning in infants, chronic conditions in bothe mother and the child and development of several health issue in mother are being reported.
Awareness in rural area and to people who aren’t educated is needed through camps, seminars, advertisements and visit by goverment officials.
Why is it that people wait for complications to visit doctors and not take precautions before especially in pregnancy where two life’s are at risk?
It may be because of the elders at home who give guidance which may be harmful sometimes. Elders think whatever they did in their times was right and no one should oppose them.
The most common reasons for pregnant females not going for a regular ANC I think is LACK OF AWARENESS around the pregnancy related diseases and symptoms to look out for. We’ve managed to tone down the stigma around the menstrual hygiene but need to spread awareness surrounding the diseases during pregnancy. The lifestyle and environmental factors also play major role and people at large are unaware about them. Educating people by creating awareness about these issues can help avoid unnecessary complications and people might take ANC visits seriously! Economic factors and lack of access to good ANC centers are also few of the reasons people can’t visit even when they want to.
