Fear, stigma, embarrassment and lack of awareness often prevent women from seeking timely gynecology care.
According to WHO - 80% of the cervical cancers can be prevented by early diagnosis, 70% of gynecology problems are more treatable when detected early and 60% of women are unaware of the recommended screening guidelines.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN CARE IS DENIED ?
- Late diagnosis - conditions like PCOS, cysts, fibroids and infection may worsen if left untreated.
- Delayed screening - missing regular checkups may delay early detection of serious conditions.
- Untreated menstrual problems - Ignoring severe pain, irregular cycles or heavy bleeding may result in serious complications.
- Emotional stress - Ongoing symptoms and delayed care can increase anxiety and affect mental wellbeing.
HOW CAN WE REDUCE STIGMA ?
- Open conversations - Ensure reproductive health is openly discussed with family, friends and doctors.
- Education - Reproductive health and menstrual health should be taught in school.
- Healthcare support - Encouraging healthcare workers to create judgment free and supportive environment.
Normalizing reproductive and menstrual health discussions can help more women seek timely care.
