Every one of us worked hard for the degrees we are pursuing or have pursued. Many students live under the delusion that once they finish their degrees, they will get good job opportunities. However, in the job world, degrees are necessary but not sufficient, employers also ask about skills. As young, naive students, we find it difficult to cope with all these scenarios. No one prepares us for these harsh realities. One has to find their own way.
I think colleges should also include up-skilling and job-readiness training for students. Many students are talented enough, but they don’t get the right platform to showcase their talent. Some companies don’t hire freshers, but then how will freshers ever gain experience if no one hires them?
You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience.
Are you a fresher struggling with the same reality? Drop your thoughts
It’s absolutely true, college academics is not enough to enter the real world jobs which demand skills. But instead of waiting for opportunity we should show up for guidance through seniors, experienced professionals and try building basic skills and apply internships.
This is real world scene today. Every companies looking for 3-5 years of experience with updated knowledge and technology but not want to hire freshers who can also have same potential.
Reality hits harder. Yes, it’s necessary for colleges to include up skilling training for students. In today’s world, it’s not just about degrees-- skills and practical exposure matter a lot.
Yes, I always wonder the same thing: how do freshers get experience without actually having done a job before?
No one prepares us for these hurdles, and it is overwhelming to think that freshers aren’t hired due to a lack of experience. Colleges must provide relevant skill training and more employment opportunities to students.
Yes as a student i amdealing with to finding internship in our field some company also saying for internship u need a experience how ise that possible?
In colleges it’s only theory. It would be better if they send them for few hours in any organization to see the practical approach of what they are just reading in books from first year. It would make studies interesting and engaging. This would also help them know whether it’s what they wanted or they are made for something else to do in life.
Highly skilled people end up not getting jobs due to lack of opportunities and recognition. We joined colleges and universities not only for a degree but also to improve our overall skillset. It is definitely our responsibility to improve our skills even outside our college but, that doesn’t mean colleges shall only provide a degree and nothing else.
Colleges should collaborate with companies, bring new opportunities to the table, provide internships, encourage students to improve their skills by conducting regular workshops and events. Initiatives like these can accelerate student confidence and skills thereby, they can showcase these skills in their interviews also.
They must also provide placement support for students as freshers don’t have much exposure outside and are usually not considered as a first pick in Jobs.
