Summers without mangoes are like sunlight without warmth, bright but missing its essence, its soul.
But there’s one thing most people worry about having mangoes … “breakouts”.
Mangoes don’t directly cause acne for everyone but in some people it can contribute to breakouts.
One reason for mangoes to cause breakouts is that it is naturally high in sugar which can increase insulin levels. When insulin levels increase, a hormone called IGF-1 increases and it stimulates sebum production which may further clog pores and give rise to acne.
This is the only reason I knew, but my grandmother says it’s because it has heat in it and honestly I never truly understood what she meant. Is there an explanation in ayurveda for it? Something maybe related to ‘vaat’, ‘pitta’ and ‘kapha’?
