Pimples before periods? 😓

A lot of women get fresh pimples right before their menstruation begins. This happens because the hormones fluctuate around this time. Progesterone- a major hormone rises significantly, causing our skin to produce more sebum (oil). Extra oil can clog pores and combine with bacteria and dead skin cells causing those excruciating pimples on the face, chin or back. Oil production may worsen concurrently with a little increase in testosterone- a male hormone that women also have in trace amounts.

I get these breakouts almost every month too- no matter how much I take care of my skin, one or two pimples will always pop up. Do you get pimples before your period too? How do you deal with them? Let’s share and help each other feel better.

This is the reason why I hated periods so much. Before periods pimples poop up and ruined my outing plans.

Lol true

It is very common and gradually their formation decreases with age. Mostly they come around 7-10 days before the cycle and that’s why this time-window should be used with proper preventive care. A cleanser with ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide (in topical form) can be used as this helps in regulating acne formation during this time. Foods rich in omega-3, Zn, and Mg will help towards keeping the internal system balanced that can check acne formation. Better to avoid over-washing of face and limited use of make up can hugely help as that can aid towards shrinking the existing pimple soon rather than irritating it and causing much swelling and redness. All these should be done regularly to see a gradual change on the skin (within a time span of six months), as it takes time for these things to work.

Yes, getting pimples before your period is super common—it’s due to hormonal changes, especially a drop in estrogen and a rise in progesterone, which increases oil production and clogs pores. I usually deal with them by keeping my skincare routine simple: gentle cleanser, salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide spot treatment, and lots of water. I also avoid heavy makeup and try not to pick at them (even though it’s tempting!)
