IT ENDED IN TEARS; MY FITNESS JOURNEY
When I started my fitness journey, I woke up one day, went online, downloaded a couple of videos and got right into it. I had no goal. I didn’t even research or tried to understand the videos.
After two weeks of directionless exercise, I became a ball of pain. I had knee, feet and shoulder pain. My whole body ached. To cut a very long story short, it ended in tears.
I stopped exercising for two years, trying to heal. I recently started exercising, but now, I’m smarter and taking things slower.
So, for anyone who wants to embark on a fitness journey, here are a few tips for you:
A) Have a purpose
You should have a goal. If you intend to lose weight, tone your muscles, or just keep fit, you need to have a clear goal. The type of exercise you perform should depend on what you would like to achieve. Have a goal, only then can you determine the direction you wish to take.
B) Research
Read books, watch videos (especially those from certified fitness instructors). There are also lots of cool apps that offer valuable advice. If you have the means, register at your local gym, so you can have access to professional advice and guidance. Expand your knowledge before embarking on your fitness journey.
C) Learn to stretch before and after exercising.
Specialists have encouraged stretching before and after workouts. Dynamic stretching is encouraged before workouts, as it increases blood flow and prepares the muscles for rigorous activity. It also helps prevent sport injuries. They are stretches that involve movement. Static stretching is done after exercising to prevent stiffness.
D) Do a little at a time
Your body needs time to adjust. Do a little at a time. You cannot achieve your goal in one day. Take your time, enjoy your journey and exercise patience. Relax and enjoy your journey.
From experience, I know how painful sport injuries can be. I hope these tips can help someone have a better journey and a less painful experience. But above all, love yourself and stay happy.
