People have normalized scrolling reels for hours. Even children have screen time of 7-9 hours. We are just mindlessly scrolling watching reels that we’ll anyway forget soon. We compare our lives to curated feeds, and chase likes for validation. While social media connects us, it’s also linked to anxiety, poor self esteem, and even depression. The “perfect lives” we see online often hide the struggles behind the scenes.
Yes, excessive use of mobile phones and tablets may cause many mental as well as physical health problems, affecting your nervous system, and may cause stress, anxiety and depression.
Yeah, Social media is like an indirect peer pressure that one brings upon themselves. Even children want to to something they saw on social media. This is because parents find it the easy way to calm down children who are throwing tantrums and not letting parents do their work.
Yes, social media is really harming our mental health.
Before social media, life was different. Elders used to sit together, talk, eat, and spend quality time with each other. But now, most people especially this generation spend more time on their phones than with their own families.
Because of this, we’re slowly losing reallife connections.
We make online friends… but we forget our offline friends and even our family.
That’s why I feel social media is breaking our real bonds and affecting our mental peace more than we realize.
Social media directly affect the mental health now a days our routiene start by social media end by social media we have 1000 friends in social media but zero friends in reality
People are consumed by social media so much these days that everyone is chasing validation and perfection and forget about the struggles
Even the 30 sec reel takes 2 hours
Work out in gives the results not just scrolling.
True, using social media is affecting us both mentally and physically
That’s so true. We have become so used to scrolling that we don’t even realize how much time we’re spending on it. It starts as entertainment but ends up affecting our mindset. Constant comparison, chasing likes, and seeing only the “happy” parts of others’ lives can really mess with our self-esteem. It’s important we use social media mindfully and take breaks when needed.
True social media affected us both mentally and physically behind scrolling the reels , likes , filters we forgot the life before the social media. The older generation like our grandfather , grandmother they didn’t have any mental health condition called anxiety , depression , sleep disturbance .They didn’t live to impress or compare .They just simply lived .
But today’s generation compares constantly , and ends up feeling alone social media has created silent pressure .
We don’t know when these social media changed our lives in a bad way.
I agree. Least use of social media and turning the feed into a positive feed is really required. Also social media causes some kind of peer pressure and decreases the confidence in an individual. Don’t be influenced by that, do what makes you happy.
Very true , not only it is harming our mental health is is also leading to laziness and a negative impact to social life.
The excessive use of phone is shortening our attention spam, along with, harming our lifestyle, we are really starting to procrastinate, delay in getting things done. Overall, the productivity is at all time low.
The likes and notifications create dopamine driven feedback cycles, that may contribute to obsessional behaviours including a constant need for external assurance. In accordance to some research, browsing social networking sites may impact sleep schedules hinder in-person interactions with others, each of which are important optimal emotional wellness. In addition, comparing ourself with the highlight reels, others post online could reduce our self-esteem as we tend to compare our real life with others’.
Yes, definitely social media is impacting our life more than we could imagine. We are wasting too much time by scrolling reels and youtube shorts and we are not even realizing it. Since everything on social media is shown as all pleasant and perfect, specially by these social media influencers, we tend to have a thought of unsatisfaction with our life and situations. This will indirectly cause anxiety, depression, self doubt and poor self-esteem.
Nowdays, people are used to social media and without using them the mental health will be affected more than usual mental health. So they have a fixed assumption that scrolling reels or watching phone can be stress relief practice for them. These practices can be controlled by reading books , painting , etc.,they should slowly come out of this.
In today’s world, most of us have unknowingly become slaves to reels and social media, constantly scrolling, seeking quick dopamine hits, and losing touch with real moments.
You’re right, social media can be harmful. In my childhood, we didn’t use social media, and we’d spend quality time with family. After school, I’d spend time with my parents, and during summer nights, we’d sleep on the terrace, chatting and gossiping. I’d help my mother in the kitchen, listening to her stories and grandma’s stories. In the evenings, my sister and I would play outdoors, enjoying farm visits and summer holidays with cousins, playing traditional games. Those days were calm and peaceful. Nowadays, everyone’s addicted to social media, even children. It comparison, as people often share happiness but not struggles, leading to suffering. Mindless scrolling can be a huge waste of time. To overcome this, we can practice time management, prioritize tasks, and reduce screen time using apps and settings.
Hope you’re doing well
Happy day!
