You chose healthcare. Maybe because you wanted to help people. Maybe because it was your dream. Or maybe… you didn’t know what else to do.
Now you’re in the middle of it — surrounded by textbooks, exams, clinical rotations, and expectations.
And you’re wondering… “Do I even want to do this forever?”
“Am I falling behind while others seem so sure?”
“What if I don’t become a ‘successful doctor’ or dentist or whatever I’m supposed to be?”
Here’s the truth nobody told us: Feeling lost doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re thinking.
It means you care enough to question.
And that’s powerful.
What you can do instead of panicking: Talk to seniors or mentors who’ve walked different paths.
Explore career options — research, public health, clinical, writing, global health, med-tech.
Take small steps: internships, volunteering, workshops.
Get career counselling — not because you’re weak, but because you want clarity.
Remember: Your degree is a toolkit, not a prison sentence.
You are not behind. Some of the best healthcare professionals I know were once confused students. If you feel lost, let that be the beginning of discovery, not the end of motivation.
You’re allowed to question.
You’re allowed to pivot.
You’re allowed to build a career that’s true to you, not just what society expects.
You didn’t come this far just to follow someone else’s path.
So pause. Reflect. Recalibrate. And move forward one step at a time.
Or drop, if you’ve ever felt lost in your healthcare journey let’s talk.
