The Pressure to Succeed: Why We Feel Lost

In today’s world, it feels like everyone has their career figured out especially in IT or data fields while some of us in healthcare, biomedical, or allied sciences feel invisible.

 The Reality:

  • Society mainly recognizes doctors & nurses, overlooking others like biomedical engineers, physiotherapists, genetic counselors, radiology experts, etc.

  • Many of us doubt ourselves, especially when classmates switch careers (to IT, business, etc.) while we continue in healthcare.

  • Constant comparison makes us feel like we’re “falling behind.”

:seedling: How to deal with it:

  • Understand every field has its timeline impact > speed.

  • Healthcare innovation often works quietly in the background but changes lives long term.

  • Building awareness of these hidden professions is the first step to recognition.

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Have you ever doubted your career path because of societal pressure? How did you overcome it?

The feeling of falling behind is natural. Healthcare related career demand more years of studying and dedication and some people might feel lost during the process. But at the end, the result is always satisfying. What matters is we should enjoy the process.

Being a movie character, Gott finds it easy to claim this. In real life, being true to yourself can be a tad more difficult than that. As we grow up and the world expects so much of us, we easily bury our true selves under those expectations. But if you keep it hidden for too long, it’ll eventually start knocking on the door of your mind. Your true self will want to be noticed and honored. If by that time, your life has already diverged from your heart’s desires, the knocking may manifest as feeling lost in life.

Absolutely! It’s all about enjoying the journey, not just the destination.

It’s okay to feel lost sometimes; acknowledging your true self is the first step to finding your way back. Be gentle with yourself .
