Health in Your Hands: Dangers of Overusing Sanitizers”

*Skin irritation – Frequent use can strip away natural oils, causing dryness, redness, or itching.

*Cracked skin & infections – Overuse may damage the skin barrier, making it easier for bacteria and fungi to enter.

*Hormone disruption – Some sanitizers contain triclosan or parabens, which may interfere with hormones if absorbed.

*Weakened immunity – Constantly killing germs may reduce natural exposure, potentially weakening the body’s immune response.

*Alcohol-related issues – High-alcohol sanitizers can cause burns, stinging on cuts, and in rare cases, poisoning if ingested (especially in children).

*Antibiotic resistance – Overusing products with antibacterial chemicals may contribute to resistant “superbugs.”

*Eye & respiratory irritation – Fumes and accidental contact can cause burning sensations in the eyes or throat.

*Environmental harm – Chemicals in sanitizers may pollute water systems and affect aquatic life when washed off.

*False security – Over-reliance on sanitizers may make people neglect handwashing, which is often more effective.

This is correctly described. Washing hands should always be the first measure instead of sanitiser. Sanitiser is a pocket friendly replacement for washing hands in case we do not have soap and water. It can sanitise our hands but long term use also has some harful effects.

sanitizer should only be used in situations where you cannot wash your hands with water. Using sanitizer every time even though there isn’t a need can cause dryness and itching of hands. yes, over usage can also cause damage of skin barrier.

well explained..
