Lately, I’ve noticed that I struggle to maintain discipline in my life. Whether it’s waking up early, studying consistently, exercising, eating healthy, or even staying off my phone for a few hours. It made me wonder if it is really just about being tired, or has daily life become so overstimulating that maintaining discipline now requires much more effort than before?
We live in a time where everything competes for our attention. Reels, constant notifications, instant delivery, instant entertainment, our brains are rarely bored anymore. Many of us feel mentally exhausted even before the day properly begins. It somehow feels easier to spend hours watching YouTube videos than to focus for even 20 minutes on studying or doing something important.
What makes it even harder is that social media often portrays discipline as something aesthetic and picture-perfect. Influencers show flawless morning routines with coordinated gym clothes, luxury skincare, expensive coffees, supplements, planners, and perfectly curated lifestyles. The harsh truth is that reality is entirely different! Discipline is often repetitive, boring, inconvenient, and very ordinary. Most disciplined days probably don’t look aesthetic at all.
Personally, I feel discipline is less about having the perfect routine and more about showing up consistently, even in imperfect circumstances. Small habits done regularly matter far more than a glamorous routine that only lasts a few days.
What is your opinion on this? Do you think discipline has become harder today, or have our expectations become unrealistic?
