For Indian students doing MBBS in foreign countries- how do you handle the food situation? Does the mess /cafeteria provide Indian meals and snacks/items? What about such food availability in local markets? Do you guys cook for yourself? How do you cope with such issues? What is the attitude of locals on these issues? Just curious.
Well here comes the tough part. We have mess but mostly they aren’t affordable. Well provided with kitchens we cook. Ingredients aren’t available as most countries are towards north. If available they are expensive. You need to carry everything from India.
Well the locals might have a inferior attitude but mostly they are helpful.
How do we cope up? -we adopt.
Is it hard to maintain your study and work life in abroad to gather daily expenses.
As a Georgian graduate, I used to live in a hostel with an Indian mess during my early studies. Then, I shifted into an apartment where I would cook vegetarian food. There are good qualities of vegetables available.
As for the restaurants, we have indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi restaurants in Georgia
I don’t know much about the foreign colleges but here even in AIIMS we are not getting the food upto the mark
Not in foreign , in our own country we face problems. Like sea area all get is non veg.
students face problem everywhere .
As an Indian MBBS student abroad, food was initially a challenge. Cafeterias rarely offer Indian meals, so we cook ourselves. Local markets help, and most locals are respectful and curious about our cuisine.
I would never trust cafeteria food unless it is a small school. For large schools quantity trumps quality, so it is bound to be terrible. If ingredients are available and owning a stove is allowed, I would advocate for cooking for yourself.
I appreciate you guys who live abroad and manage these things . I know it takes alot of sacrifice to do so…proud of you guys
Being in our country itself, but in different state I itself feel difficulty in case of food.
The taste is different, rice type is different,… 1st year I feel difficulty in hostel as they mostly use gingley oil, which I feel awkward even in it’s smell itself.
Now I changed to a home, where themselves can cook, which feel so far better.
