Cornell University Rape Case: Jane Doe Says Healthcare System Failed Her

In 2024, Jane Doe was drugged and raped at one of Cornell’s Fraternity Houses.

According to the lawsuit that was filed last month, Jane was 20 years old when the incident happened. On October 19, 2024, Jane said she had drunk a lot of vodka until she felt intoxicated at a sorority house.

Around 8:30 p.m., Jane and her friends went to a bar in New York where they were served more alcohol even though they were underage at the time. By 10:00 p.m., they had all gone to a different bar in another area.

By 11 pm, Jane Doe decided to meet one of her other friends alone at the Chi Phi fraternity house, where she was eventually drugged and raped by multiple men.

Two days after the alleged assault, Jane went to see a doctor on campus; she told the doctor that she had contracted a urinary tract infection in a “traumatic way.” However, the doctor did not respond to her statement and rather asked her to see a therapist.

Did Cornell fail her when she needed healthcare and support most?

If the allegations are accurate Cornell’s response appears to have fallen short of the trauma-informed care and support a sexual-assault survivor should receive.

Its horrifying to see how the society has normalized rape and the lack of action from the side of educational institutions. Cornell has failed her and before every student chooses their university, I am sure this will cross their mind that the university doesn’t stand up for its students. Women haven’t been treated in a fair manner neither have been supported when they need it the most. More strict laws for sexual assaults should be made

This is very disturbing! The university and management should have supported her and stood by her. Afterall an institution is for the students and should support them whenever needed. this would surely send a message across all institutions to strengthen their student support.

If the allegations are accurate, this case highlights how critical timely, trauma-informed healthcare and compassionate support are for survivors. Their concerns should be taken seriously, with appropriate medical care, documentation, safety measures, and access to counseling and support services

It definitely has fallen short
