As a BAMS doctor (or even just a health enthusiast), have you noticed how your mind suddenly becomes more active after 10 PM?
Because I’ve definitely been there.
No matter how tired I am, if I stay up past 10, sleep just… slips away.
My mind kicks into overdrive — thinking, planning, rewinding the whole day. It’s like instead of winding down, I’m powering up. I couldn’t figure out why… until I remembered something we learned in class: Pitta takes over between 10 PM and 2 AM.
If you’re not asleep before that, the internal heat — digestion, thought processing, even emotions — all ramp up. And that can make falling asleep so much harder.
That’s not just stress — it could be a Pitta dosha imbalance.
So I started experimenting:
Light dinners, usually khichdi
Warm milk with a pinch of nutmeg
Massaging my feet with Brahmi oil
No screens after 9 PM
It hasn’t been perfect, but I can feel a shift.
If you’re someone who just can’t sleep past 10, maybe this is something to look into. Ayurveda really helps you understand your body’s rhythm.
Well explained, on some days I face this too and now I understand why. Thank you for these tips. Even small steps make a big impact on our life so we should ways to make our lifestyle better.
This is something new.. thank you @DrSuneeti-Yemberi for sharing this.. currently going through something similar, and this information is genuinely helpful for me.
I can totally relate to this. Whenever I stay up past 10, my mind suddenly feels like it’s switched on - replaying the day, planning tomorrow, even overthinking tiny things. Once I started following small tips like eating early, and avoiding screens, I noticed I could sleep off more easily.
