Let’s talk about the drink that gets us through lectures, night shifts, and exams.
Most of us start or survive our day with caffeine in the form of coffee, tea, energy drinks, or even chocolate. But do we really understand how it impacts our focus, memory, anxiety levels, and even sleep quality?
Research studies highlight both the benefits and drawbacks of caffeine use:
A study published in the journal “The New England Journal of Medicine” (2020) demonstrates that caffeine can enhance alertness, attention, and performance especially under sleep-deprived conditions.
But another research study published in the journal “Sleep Health” (2017) found that caffeine consumed even 6 hours before bed-time can reduce sleep quality and duration.
Another research published in the journal “JAMA Psychiatry” (2021) also outlines a link between high caffeine intake and increased anxiety in young adults, particularly in those who are prone to stress/burnout.
Have you noticed changes in your sleep or stress levels after caffeine-heavy days?
Should there be more awareness around caffeine use in day-to-day life?
Share your thoughts, habits, or even some research you have come across. Let’s explore this together, because most of us rely on caffeine, but not all of us understand it.
Caffeine helps to focus but also makes us awake for few hours. This results in less sleeping hours, which directly results in anxiety and problems related to lack of sleep.
Yes this caffeine is also seen in the dark chocolates we eat and some cool drinks also has this element that makes us delay in sleep and we are getting addicted to this.
This is a very informative post. Even I am an ardent coffee lover and have it whenever I feel stressed or to get that concentration while doing work. This post was like an awareness for me to limit my caffiene intake. Thank you for sharing.
I have seen my brother taking caffeine for night studies . It will keep him awake for the longer time at night but at the same time during morning he will restless. Taking caffeine is okay but it should be taken only for one day or else two or three days once . Due to lack of sleep your mental health will be affected and you will not be able to concentrate on your studies.
Yes, I’ve definitely noticed this myself. During my internship, I had long working hours and ended up drinking coffee whenever I could find a moment. It really took a toll on me. My sleep got disturbed, and I started breaking out with pimples all over my face. Normally, I used to have coffee just twice a day and never had any issues, but the irregular and excessive intake during that time clearly affected me in a lot of ways.
