Are Online Courses Really Helping Pharma Students?

During lockdown, I took 4 certificate courses in pharmacovigilance, clinical research, and medical writing — but when I went for interviews, no one asked about them. Are online certifications just resume fillers or do they really help? Have you done any that actually made a difference? Let’s share which ones are worth the time!

Online certifications can be helpful, but their value depends on the field and job. Some might be just resume fillers, while others can showcase your skills. It’s worth finding out which ones are truly valuable in your industry.

There’s actually a boom of online courses and certifications these days. Most of them are fine enough if you want to gain general idea about the topic, however only handful of those could be considered resume worthy. The institution the course is associated with plays a huge role. If it’s reputed with commendable curriculum then, you are good to go. In the end all depends on your goal. If you simply want to learn, no course or knowledge is waste. But if you want to catch recruiter’s eye then definitely go for the one with prestige to it’s name.

I think sometime online certification will help only when you apply them right.
You will choose right industry not only medical writing or other courses there are medical coding you can do online certification for that and it is help full.
Actually you are not doing certification you are gaining skills so you must highlight skills in your resume.

Yes, they are indeed very helpful as we can learn topics beyond the syllabus that are required in today’s modern pharma industries, such as courses related to AI and other certification courses that enhance our skills and knowledge. By doing these courses alongside our graduation, we can also save a lot of time.

  • Learning AI-related courses can help pharmacists leverage technology for better patient care, data analysis, and drug development.
  • Certification courses can enhance skills in areas like pharmacovigilance, regulatory affairs, and clinical research.
  • Acquiring knowledge beyond the syllabus can make pharmacy graduates more competitive in the job market and open up diverse career opportunities.
  • Staying updated with modern pharma industry trends can also help to facilitate innovation and entrepreneurship in the field.

Nowadays there are lots of online certifications available, they do claim it will be beneficial for our career and hope so.

If we gain knowledge during our certification, it will be a great boon for us as we can do it at our convenience, but it will lack the real world experience of a classroom and face to face to interaction.

Online Courses are good because through those courses we can get basic idea about the topic
It is also benifical for those students who come from a financially weak background because most the online course are very cheap and so everyone could afford it and learn from it

I’ve done a few too and honestly, they help more in building knowledge and confidence than landing a job directly. Most interviewers don’t ask, but if you apply what you learn in real projects or internships, it does make a difference.

Lately, I’ve been feeling really frustrated. Every company says they want skilled candidates, and most of us spend a lot of time and effort building those skills taking online and offline courses, learning new tools. But when it comes to applying for jobs, it feels like none of that really matters. We carefully tailor our resumes to match the job descriptions, using all the right keywords, and still nothing. No response, no feedback. Just silence
