Might be a good option for some people but if i talk personally about me or like any other pharmacy graduate, career growth is a must need and with this option i don’t think it will shape a good future.

Medical coding is a rapidly growing field. Many recruiters encourage both certified professionals and freshers to apply.

i dont think so because in medical coding you need to upgrade everyime when you need promotions and high package salary. when you are tring for promotions cpompaniesd ask you for the certifications like CPC,CRC,COC,CCS like this . many companies will promote the employees by having these certifications. for doing these certifications the amount may be high like 75,000 .profit after doing these certifications will not match to your currrent salary. so choose the career wisely.

Yes, medical coding can be a good next step after getting a Bachelor of Pharmacy, especially if you’re interested in the paperwork side of the healthcare field.
You have a good base because you know a lot about pharmacology, anatomy, and medical terms.
But it’s more of a non-clinical path, which is great if you want a stable, process-oriented job but not so great if you want to work directly with patients or do clinical research.

It all depends on what you want to do in the future.

Yes, medical coding can be a logical step after a B.Pharm, especially for those interested in healthcare administration or data management. A pharmacy background provides a strong understanding of medical terminology and treatment procedures, which is valuable in coding. It also offers a quicker entry into the healthcare industry compared to clinical roles. However, it may not fully utilize the depth of pharmaceutical knowledge gained during the degree.

it’s a good idea. but there are many more opportunities. We just lack guidance. If we guided correctly, we could find many opportunities better than the Medical Coding.

It totally depends on the interest of the Student if the Student think that he/she can have a great career in Medical Coding then it is not a bad option

Yes. I think it is good option as it comes with many benefits like -

  1. remote job options
  2. certification
  3. Stable carrier
  4. Good compensation

There is a lot of scope for medical coders, here and abroad too.

Recently I noticed many opportunities on linkedin for certified and non-certified coders. I don’t know about growth, but they get good salary it seems.

I think No,Medical coding is not a logical step or direct step specifically for B.Pharm graduates may be it is alternative career path some choose.
Because it doesn’t fully use the depth of our pharmacy knowledge. Anyone from life sciences or even non-pharmacy backgrounds can do medical coding with basic training. But as a pharmacy graduates, we studied subjects like pharmacology, pharmaceutics, clinical pharmacy, and more—giving us strong drug knowledge that fits better in roles like pharmacovigilance, clinical research, medical writing, or regulatory affairs.

While coding can be a quick job option, it doesn’t make full use of what we have actually learned. So, it’s better to aim for roles where our skills are valued and applied properly.

It could be a good option if you get the right place and opportunity.

Medical Coding is one among the numerous options to specialise after B Pharm. Right now, I think it has a pretty good job market especially for certified coders. However, with the new advancements in technologies, AI might replace human coders in the coming future. So, it would be better to think about every aspects before making the choice.

not now but there may be scope in future

Now, I am confused as everyone’s statement seems contradicting to me.
examples of contradictory statements : @Kothwalzabeen and @Yash1612, @Fathimath_NA and @Manmohan_25 .

I really like coding and want to become a medical coder, but these replies are very confusing.

Is there anyone experienced enough, maybe a professional medical coder, who can tell us what to do and what not ?

Yeah, it’s a good step. Pharmacy knowledge really helps in medical coding, and there are plenty of job options too.

Definitely a growing field and as pharmacy as background I feel its worth looking at.
