I always had a doubt that, what is difference between generic and the branded one medicine? Then while studying biopharm that:-
- Branded: Original medicine developed by the innovator company.
- Generic: Bioequivalent copy with the same effect at a lower cost.
The next question arises that is it safe? is effective? The answer is yes. Generic medicines are absolutely safe and effective.
According to my experience My father has hypertension and has been taking generic medicines Bisoprolol as prescribed by his doctor. His blood pressure is well controlled, and the medicines have been safe and effective for him despite their lower cost.
His friends used to tell him that generic are not good one dont take it but we tell them that lower price does not mean lower quality.
As health professional i understood that generic medicines before they are approved, they meet strict quality, safety, and efficacy standards set by regulatory authorities by doing IVIVC Study . They also have to demonstrate bioequivalence, which means they work in the body in the same way as the branded medicine.
Conclusion:-As a healthcare profesional, I believe awareness about generic medicines can help reduce healthcare costs while ensuring safe and effective treatment."
Can You explain what IVIVC is and why it is important in establishing the quality and performance of generic medicines?
