When my mother spoke of the 100 hazards of lighting incense sticks and we abruptly discontinued the use, I found it hard to argue with.
But now we are talking solid/spray-can air fresheners as well.
It urged me to look the data up and I came across this article by the Iranian Institute of Toxicology. https://ijt.arakmu.ac.ir/article-1-754-en.pdf
Now after ages of use/abuse/misuse, how do we start being cautious of every single household item? What’s necessary? What isn’t?
Does everything around need scrutiny before it affects our CNS/PNS/Respiratory system/ Skin etc??
It’s a fact that our lifestyles are getting so sensitive to each and everything. While simplifying our lives with the products, they are making us sensitive to literally everything.
yeah every household item is not safe as we think. some room freshener are not safe as we think and we will not even notice it. by inhaling some of the room freshener we will feel a mild headache. and some people will evenly cough and sneeze due to the smell. These are the side effects that occurs due to the fragrance. so once we have felt with these symptoms then we should be aware as it is indicating some side effect.
We use air fresheners thinking they just make the room smell good, but we don’t realise they release chemicals that can slowly affect our health especially our nervous and respiratory systems. Things like phthalates and formaldehyde are found in many sprays, and over time they can cause headaches, breathing issues, even affect mood and sleep.
So we should prefer Natural options or simply keeping windows open can actually help more than we think.
The thing I tried to say is most things around us is harmful at some point. So you have to know the limitations and know how to overcome it may be find alternatives…
There are certain compounds that comes under fragrances category but still they have medicinal values. It all depends on the compound nature and level of toxicity.
Yes.It can be due to certain compunds or chemicals present in them may harm us directly or indirectly. It’s better to stick on to natural ways like keeping the doors and windows open or using traditional methods to keep our rooms fresh
