Well , it feels that our brain can multitask but our brain can actually focus well on one task at a time
For instance.
Studying + tasking
watching a lecture + scrolling.
our brain can multitask only when one task is automatic (habit based)
like Walking + talking or listening to music + cooking which I do usually listening music +studying or cooking
well the activities which are habit based in that case prefrontal cortex is used less
PREFRONTAL CORTEX can be named as CEO of brain which mostly handles thinking ,planning ,decision making .
So, when this prefrontal cortex gets tired due to multitasking then we may feel distractive ,indecisive ,overthinking can occur so, this can reduce the efficiency and concentration of brain .
As brain can switch between different tasks very rapidly , we tend to think that it is multitasking . But different parts can also get activated at the same time as well . So, parallel activation can be there and can give a feeling of multitasking but only if the task is not very tough or challenging.
interesting!
the brain seems to multitask, but it’s mostly rapid switching – so it looks efficient, but doesn’t always work that way in reality for me.
Well i feel multitasking is a habit developed over time because of constant pressure over needing to many things for psychological or other reasons unknown. Eventually in the cycle of proving ourselves or wanting perfection we over work and get tired/exhausted.
I feel multitasking is not only a physical process but also involves prior mental preparation. The brain likely sets up the required attention and control mechanisms before performing multiple tasks. While different brain regions can work simultaneously, the brain may actually be rapidly switching between tasks rather than doing them all at the exact same time, which is why multitasking feels possible.
I feel that different brain areas have the potential to work simultaneously but in order to make it happen effectively and improve coordination multitasking skill should be developed by practicing it often.
In my understanding, multitasking is like any other skill our brains are capable of learning. Although I believe, people have their own pace to learn and adapt to it, as they would to any other skill. Once adapted to, it surely makes life a little easier. Also, let’s not forget, as women we are inherently capable of multi tasking (ofcourse, impositions and assumptions about it are wrong). From ruling the kitchen to operation theatres, our trained minds are capable of doing it all.
My answer turned out to be wrong. But anyways I gained a quick information. Came to know that “It rapidly switches between tasks, creating the illusion of doing multiple things at once. This is driven by the prefrontal cortex, which manages attention and priorities.”
Our brain is a masterpiece itself working multiple task simultaneously to maintain the normal functioning. different part can work on different things at same time.
We often take multitasking as a skill but in long run it might cause reduced work quality, cognitive overload to some. It is also important to normalise that everyone has different capacities to work.
