Many people assume that anything labeled “natural” is automatically safer than medicines. Because of this, some patients prefer herbal products or home remedies even for conditions that require proper medical treatment.
While certain natural remedies may have benefits, not all of them are scientifically studied for safety, effectiveness, dosage, or interactions with other medicines.
At the same time, fear of side effects and misinformation about pharmaceuticals may also influence patient choices.
It shows how healthcare is not only about treatment, but also about trust, awareness, and perception
Why do you think many patients feel more comfortable trusting “natural” remedies than prescribed medicines?

Agreed. Natural remedies are trusted more because it is thought to have no side effects.
But the issue here is that, natural remedies are thought to have no side effects because they have never been studied to the extent allopathy medications have been studied.
Naturally, when you study something well, you tend to know its pros and cons.
Yes, I agree with you. Many patients trust natural remedies more than medicines because they feel they are safer and give quick results. For example, whenever I get a sore throat due to a cold or cough, my family usually gives me tulsi and ginger kadha, which often works well. It also helps people avoid visting a doctor for minor health issues. Additionally, many people believe that home remedies are cheaper than medical treatment, so they often prefer natural remedies over medicines.
Some people may like the idea of using natural remedies because they believe natural means safe and less toxic but in reality whatever labelled as natural may not be safe.they assume prescribed medication is chemical or artificial hence more toxic it’s their perception.
The fear of going to hospitals runs in the Indian mindset. Instead of seeking proper treatment at hospitals, many people believe that if an illness can be cured at home, there is no need to visit a hospital—whether the issue is small or serious. So, I believe that we, as healthcare professionals, must guide people and spread awareness about the importance of getting the correct treatment.
Because of our reality of hospital and healthcare industry. That’s the reason first they try natural remedies if not cure then they go for modern medicines.
Correct. People do tend to use so called ‘natural’ or ‘herbal’ labelled medications and that to unsupervised without consultation. And largely due to the misconception, that those medications do not have any side effects. For the majority of those medicines, that’s even true.
But the biggest concern is considering ‘natural’ and ‘herbal’ labelled drugs as ayurvedic formulations. And it can be seen vice versa. What people needs to understand is that, the medicines which they are considering Ayurvedic also requires consultation from an Ayurvedic Doctor. Who is certified and expert in Ayurved medicine. And I do feel home remedies are beneficial considering we don’t ignore the worsening signs and symptoms, which requires proper consultation with the Doctor.
