I was always fascinated by the science behind the medicines and how it cures an ailing person. I was similarly curious about the role of the emerging field of medical biotechnology since my school days, and thus I opted for a research career in biotechnology. I did my master’s degree in biotechnology with my research dissertation at the Department of Biochemistry, AIIMS ND under the guidance of Dr. D. N. Rao. Here I worked in real laboratory settings with a project on developing subunit vaccine for plague. To fulfill my scientific ambition I qualified UGC/CSIR-NET/JRF and got selected in NCCS (Savitribai Phule Pune University) to pursue PhD with Dr. M. K. Bhat. It was my interest in targeted cancer therapeutics that motivated me to join his lab. Under his guidance, I worked towards answering the limitations of cancer chemotherapy and worked with several settings like preclinical and clinical.
To expand my horizon I went to UCDavis Medical Center, CA, USA and joined Dr. J.H.N. Yik to pursue postdoctoral research. Here I worked on another aspect of cancer therapeutics, deducing the role of oncogenes in chondrosarcoma and other cancer cell models. After a few years of postdoctoral research, I moved back to India with an aim of developing as an independent researcher. A question that intrigued me, during my PhD and Postdoc years was the complex molecular interactions and the role of developmental signaling pathways in the process of carcinogenesis. I am grateful that DBT, GOI provided me with an opportunity to explore this goal through a DBT grant, and I started my research career as an independent scientist. Throughout my career, I followed my observations as well as my impulse without restricting myself to a particular scientific aspect. Besides my research activity, I am a versatile writer and am passionately involved in writing many popular science articles. I have written scientific and non-scientific medical content. I am continuously associated with my writing journey and will always try to expand my writing horizon through better opportunities.
