14th June is celebrated as the blood donation day. It is celebrated to raise the awareness of the need to donate blood. This day is also celebrated to thank the donors for saving millions of lives just by giving their blood.
So who can give blood?
Healthy people can give blood. Age is considered as the basic eligibility. Someone who is aged between 18 to 65 can give blood. You cannot donate blood if you’re suffering from any diseases like flu, sore throat, any infection, STDs. If you’re underweight which is less than 45kg , you cannot donate blood. If your haemoglobin level is low, you’re restricted from giving blood.
So the question arises that can we donate blood after dental treatment?
The answer is it depends on the type of treatment. Simple treatments like cleaning , fillings and braces, the donor is allowed to give only plasma for the first 24 hours. After 24 hours, they can donate blood and platelets too.
If treatments like extractions, crowns, RCTs are done then for 7 days, they can only give plasma. After 7 days, after suture removal and well- being donors can donate blood and platelets too.
