Can dental treatment be done during menstruation?

One of the most common myths in dentistry is that patients should avoid dental procedures during their menstrual cycle.

The reality?

  1. Routine dental treatments such as fillings, scaling, and root canal treatments can be performed safely.

  2. Even extractions are generally not contraindicated, provided proper case assessment and hemostatic measures are taken.

  3. Emergency dental treatment should never be delayed because of menstruation.

As clinicians, our focus should be on the patient’s overall health, comfort, pain threshold, and medical history, not just the menstrual cycle.

Patient education helps break myths and ensures timely dental care.
