1 Myth- The entire eye is donated

Fact -only the cornea; the outer central part of eye which is devoid of blood supply is retrieved & transplanted.

2 Myth- Only the young people can donate eyes

Fact- corneas from all age groups can be donated (the suitable corneas are transplanted other can be utilised for research purposes).

3 Myth - A person with diabetes cannot donate

Fact- Except for a person with active infectious & communicable diseases like hepatitis, HIV anyone can donate.

4 Myth - My religion will prevent me from donation

Fact - All major religions in the world support donation.

5 Myth - If I pledge for eye donation, it’s enough

Fact - Pledging is only to show the intention. Family, especially your next of kin should be informed about your decision.

By donating eye you continue to see world even when you are not there. Also you are giving a chance to other person to see the world.

eye donation, organ donation, skin donation and body donation for medical education are extremely important as there is long waiting list of people who are waiting for a chance to survive.

personally i have pledged to donate organs.

Gift of eyes is like gift of life. It is the thought that even after death a person’s eye can help other person to watch surrounding and living a new life. Pledging for eye donation and informing family about it is the best way to promote eye donation.
