Not all diabetes fits neatly into Type 1 or Type 2.

Unlike Type 1 diabetes:
MODY is not autoimmune.Patients usually donโt need insulin at diagnosis
Unlike Type 2 diabetes:
MODY is not driven by lifestyle or obesity. It often appears in lean, young individuals
The key difference is genetics.
MODY is caused by a single gene mutation affecting insulin production.
Because of this, treatment can be very different โ some MODY types respond well to low-dose oral drugs, and insulin may not be needed at all.
Why does this matter?
A wrong diagnosis can mean:
-Unnecessary insulin use
-Poor glucose control
-Missed family screening
MODY reminds us that diabetes isnโt one disease ,itโs a spectrum of disorders with different causes.
